BioRepository Center (BRC)
The NYULMC BioRepository Center (BRC) provides investigators with freshly acquired frozen, normal, and diseased tissue at the time of surgery, as well as pathology-archived, formalin fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens, from appropriately consented patients. Tissues currently available from BRC reflect organ-specific programs sponsored by the NYUCI (Breast, Gyn, Melanoma, Brain, Prostate, Lung, GI), however BRC acquisition services are not limited to these tumors, or to studies involving malignancies. Tissues retrospectively banked by BRC are available to all SOM investigators, and corresponding patient information can be supplied to investigators with IRB approval. Human biospecimens are essential for validating mechanistic insights into biological processes gleaned from cell lines, animal models of disease, and epidemiological studies. The availability of well-annotated human biospecimens is therefore a critical link between basic science and translational research.
